The Mediterranean tortoise is one of the exotic animals that can be used as pets. They are found on the dry and warm areas of the Mediterranean. They are friendly and hardy and taking care of them is fairly easy.

When housing a Mediterranean tortoise, you should first know the current weather. You need to know the weather to determine where to house your Mediterranean tortoise. In cold weathers, it is best to house your Mediterranean tortoise indoors.

When keeping your Mediterranean tortoise indoors, there is a need for special lighting and heat. You will need an UV lamp for proper lighting or other types of tube lighting that emits the right type of UVA or UVB light that is emulates the sunlight. The heat can be created by using another form of lighting in the form of tungsten spotlight that is used as basking light. The basking light should then be placed at one end of the Mediterranean tortoise’s habitat. This is done so that the habitat will have a gradient of temperature and your Mediterranean tortoise will be able to look for the right temperature. Both of the lights you are using should be kept on for at least twelve hours a day to emulate a Mediterranean day. Using a timer for the lights can be a good idea.
